Tanner Hall is a vivid peek into the private world of a cozy, but run-down New England boarding school for girls, where the knot of adolescent complexity is unraveled through the coming-of-age stories of four of the school's students. The story was originally conceived as a potential series for UPN, but a pilot was never filmed.

Writer/director Tatiana von Furstenberg is the daughter of fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, and her co-writer/co-director Francesca Gregorini is the daughter of Barbara Bach and the step-daughter of Ringo Starr. The two met while attending Brown University, became fast friends and cooked up "Tanner Hall" as a TV series based on their experiences attending boarding schools.  UPN picked up the project, but it became a victim of the UPN-WB merger that created the CW network. The movie, with a budget of less than $10 million, was filmed in Rhode Island.
