In June of 2002 it was announced that FX had ordered an untitled comedy pilot from Paul Reiser, playwright Steven Sater, and Arthur Spivak. Not much was known about the show, other than that it was to be about a cast of single thirtysomething New Yorkers whose lives intersected with one another. The pilot was directed by Adam Bernstein, who also happened to have directed the original unaired pilot for "Strangers With Candy". Jerry Kupfer was a producer on this project as well as on "Strangers With Candy". And besides featuring Amy Sedaris and Mark McKinney, there was one more SWC connection: Teresa Mastropiero was the production designer for both shows.
