"Ugly Betty" Diet Coke promo from the U.K.
In 2009, Diet Coke sponsored the U.K. broadcasts of "Ugly Betty" and one of their promotional spots featured five young women who were Bettyfied and sent out onto the streets of London. These promos were created to advertise the new, limited-edition, Betty-inspired Diet Coke bottles that were designed by the show's costume designer, Patricia Field.

Iran's "Ugly Betool"
"Ugly Betool" was a spoof that was found at the National Lampoon website. It was among a number of "Foreign Versions of Popular TV Shows," which included a Malaysian sweatshop version of "The Office" and India's version of "The Bachelor". In "Ugly Betool", the heroine was disrespected by her boss, who wouldn't let a woman voice her suggestions, and by the obviously gay co-worker who blatantly stole her ideas. The Iranian Amanda mocked Betool's appearance by asking, "Where did you get your burka, Abu Ghraib?"

 | | "Saturday Night Live" creates "Fugly Betsy"
In the United States, one way of knowing that a celebrity, TV show, movie, or popular song has become a part of the cultural zeitgeist is when he/she/it has been spoofed on the long-running NBC sketch comedy, "Saturday Night Live." A week after its highly-rated premiere, "Ugly Betty" was honored with such a parody. The premise of the joke was that a covetous NBC would try to replicate ABC's successful launch of "Ugly Betty" by producing their own version, a rip-off entitled "Fugly Betsy." During SNL's regular "Weekend Update" segment, Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers were visited at the news desk by Betsy (played by Fred Armisen). And just as "Ugly Betty" has a famous Latina producer, Salma Hayek, "Fugly Betsy" has Charo (played by Maya Rudolph).

Ashley Jensen on "Friday Night Project"
On February 16, 2007, Ashley Jensen (Christina McKinney on "Ugly Betty") appeared in Betty drag on this popular British sketch comedy series, as did the show's two male stars. It was the seventh, and final, episode of the show's fourth series. In one sketch, Ashley introduced the cast members to a world of style at London Fashion Week. Alan Carr found himself acting rather like a divaeven though he was wearing day-glo swimming shorts and not much else on the catwalk. Justin Lee Collins imagined what it would be like to star in a star-studded American show"Ugly Justin". But all went awry as they all fought over who should be playing the ugly one.

Betty White later appeared in the 10th episode of the second season of "Ugly Betty."

"Betty" appears in Meet the Spartans
The 2008 movie, which is primarily a spoof of the 2007 epic film 300, features a scene in which "MAD TV" cast member Crista Flanagan plays this film's version of 300's oracle, but this oracle turns out to be "Ugly Betty." She shows up again during the end credits, as the cast members perform a "Spartan Idol" version of Gloria Gaynor's iconic 1970s hit "I Will Survive."

| "Fugly Bettys": a porn spoof of "Ugly Betty"!?
I thought that it was a joke when I first read about it, but it's real. Last year Spice Studios approached director Axel Braun with the premise for the movie's plot, claiming that several people at the company are fans of the TV series, and they took the concept from there. The flick is set at the offices of a magazine called Lode and centers on a group of less-than-stunning gals yearning to get into the high fashion world. There was some concern on the set regarding whether the male "actors" would be able to "perform," but apparently the fake ugliness of the "actresses" didn't cause any problems. The film stars Michelle Avanti, Gwen Diamond, Lucy Fire, Brooke Scott, Kacy Starr, Bella Lynn, Mikey Butders, Jenner, Sascha, Jay Lassiter, and Chris Charming.

"La Parodia" skewers "La Fea más bella"
Just as the success of "Ugly Betty" inspired the "Saturday Night Live" writers to spoof the hit show, Mexico's sketch comedy "La Parodia" took aim at "La Fea más bella" in an episode that they called "La Fea más fea."
Angélica Vale is a former cast member of "La Parodia," so the actress now found herself being teased by the show on which she formerly targeted others.
"La Parodia" cast member Germán Ortega played the parody version of Lety Padilla, and Arath de la Torre played Don Fernando. Other characters were played by Roxanna Castellanos (Alicia), Arath de la Torre (Erasmo), Freddy Ortega (Luigi), Samia (Julieta), Carlos Espejel (Omar), Alejandro Ciangherotti (Lola), Herson Andrade (Martha), Yekaterina Kieva (Sara), Vicente Torres (Tomás), Pierre Angelo (Juana).

 | | "La Parodia" spoofs the "La Fea más bella" finale
After the finale of "La Fea más bella" aired, "La Parodia" dedicated another episode to having a little fun with the hit telenovela. And this time in "La Fea más fea" we got to see some characters who weren't represented in the first parody: Alicia, Luigi, Tomas, Aldo, etc.
We see Alicia being arrested, an encounter between Luigi and his father, a confrontation between Fernando and Marcia, the wedding ceremony of Lety and Aldo, and finally, the wedding of Lety and Fernando, with the revelation that Aldo is an angel at the very end.
Once again, Germán Ortega played the Lety and Arath de la Torre played Fernando.

"Homo Zapping" zaps "Yo soy Bea"
Just as the success of "Ugly Betty" inspired the "Saturday Night Live" writers to spoof the hit show, and Mexico's sketch comedy "La Parodia" skewered "La Fea más bella," the Spanish comedy show "Homo Zapping" had a little fun with "Yo soy Bea".
In the segment Alvaro, Bea, and Bárbara, played by "Homo Zapping" cast members, all wear signs over their chests. Alvaro's says, "Yo soy guapo," Bea's says, "Yo soy Bea," and Bárbara's says, "Yo soy tonta (stupid)." Alvaro asks Bea for a report and she hands it to Bárbara who hands it to Alvaro, then Alvaro and Bárbara go off together, with his hand on her bottom.

 | | "UmaNetto": Russia's animated spoof of "Ne Rodis Krasivoy"
In December 2006, after "Ne Rodis Krasivoy" ended, many episodes of an online animated parody called "UmaNetto" were created, featuring the adventures of Katya, Andrei, Roman, Kira, Vika, and Milko. None of the original cast members voiced the animated characters, but new versions of the theme and background music were used. Many of these tales featured wacky animals and typical cartoon scenarios.
