It's 12:35am and Amanda and Marc have returned to the Mode offices after a failed attempt at making a splash out at a trendy nightclub. Amanda looks in Betty's desk for subway tokens and finds a spare pair of Betty's glasses, which she puts onalong with a poncho and a sign that says "GWADALAHARAA"to imitate a certain Mode staff member. Marc dresses up as Daniel, and the two put on a little skit, during which they end up hugging and Amanda drops out of character and starts to long for being in the real Daniel's arms again. They then hear a noise and run out of the office.
It's 8:53pm and Amanda is recording her vlog for her imaginary fans. This particular vlog entry is about Betty's recent need to choose between a boring-but-dependable egg salad sandwich and a spicy Italian salami sub. Of course Amanda was really referring to Betty's Henry/Gio situation. Before she could reveal which "sandwich" Betty chose, Amanda is interrupted by Marc, who reminds her that it is their fourth "friend-iversary." They end up getting in a "Dynasty"-style catfight, which happens every year, and then they make up by sharing the aforementioned sandwiches.
Bowling for Cliff
It's 8:37pm and Marc tells Amanda that he has to go bowling with Cliff. He tells her that he's never been bowling before and she reveals the long-kept secret that from the ages of 8 through 12 she was a bowling champion at the summer camp she attended every year. They set up hairspray cans to use as pins and Marc uses a disco ball, that he just happens to carry around in his bag, to try to knock them down. Marc proves to be an impossible pupil, being unable to topple a single pin, at least not until Amanda gives him a huge rubber ball to throw. They end up making a mess and run away.
Slumber Party Secrets
It's 9:21pm and Amanda complains to Marc about how little time they've spent together recently. He suggests that they have a slumber party. After insulting each other's night clothes, raiding the refrigerator and Betty's desk for food, and waxing parts of each other's anatomy, they start to spill their deepest, darkest secrets. Amanda opines that in a pinch the Mode offices wouldn't be a bad place to live, then she confesses to Marc that she has $25,000 in credit card debt. She tries to pretend that she didn't just say what she said, then turns off the lights so they could go to sleep.
It's 10:19pm and Amanda and Marc are preparing to have a pizza party/séance with three goals: to contact the late Fey Sommers, to find out who Amanda's father is, and to eat lots of pizza. Amanda tells Marc that Fey's last words to her were, "Please throw away this tissue." Instead of contacting the dead, the just end up putting on Fey's wigs and glasses and pretend to be her. At 2:00am, after having gorged on pizza and passing out behind the receptionist's desk, they awaken to discover a presence among them, but it just turns out to be a beefy security guard.
Trapped in the Elevator
It's 8:17pm and Marc and Amanda find themselves stuck between floors in Mode Elevator 2. At 9:45pm they console themselves by thinking about the skinny, hot corpses they'll leave behind if they should die in there. Amanda confesses that she's had an erotic dream about someone from the office whose name rhymes with Schmetty Buarez. At 3:34am they begin to think that if nobody is outside the elevator to rescue them, then they must all be dead, so it'll be up to the two of them to repopulate Earth. Just as they're about to engage in an awkward kiss, the elevator starts moving and they notice the surveillance camera overhead, which recorded it all.
It's 9:43pm and Amanda gives Marc a package that had been delivered for Wilhelmina. Marc opens it and finds a gift that Wilhelmina had been planning to give to Connor. Marc thinks that it would be best to just add this to Amanda's "me pile," which consists of mail that she has chosen not to deliver to employees. They then pretend that it's Christmas and open some of the parcels. One is a book for Betty from Matt. Another is an engagement ring catalog for Daniel. One is even addressed to Marc himself, a girdle he had ordered for Cliff before they broke up. Marc wonders if Cliff was his soul-mate, but Amanda says that he wasn't, because she is.
It's 8:57pm and Amanda and Marc are thinking that it will help company morale if they play April Fools pranks on their co-workers, starting with Betty. Amanda plans to scare Betty by wearing a chupacabra mask, while Marc has replaced the frosting on Betty's doughnuts with mayonnaise. Marc is displeased to see that Amanda has started eating, and enjoying, said doughnuts. He is skeptical about the supposed merits of these doughnuts, until Amanda shoves a piece in his mouth. Marc then wonders if their pranks are being foiled because the gods are favoring Betty for her goodness. By 9:02, Amanda has collapsed on the floor and Marc is contemplating the perils of taunting karma.
It's 9:17pm at the Mode reception desk and Amanda is concerned about the two pounds that she has gained recently. Marc suggests that she should get some exercise by roller skating, but she turns out to be less than graceful on his skates. In order to motivate Amanda, Marc dangles a chocolate Easter bunny in front of her to get her to skate laps around the reception desk. Amanda finally gets the bunny and starts eating it, but Marc takes it away. He tries to distract her with lights and a disco ball, but she quickly turns her attention back to her chocolatey leporine reward.
Breaking the Band
It's 8:27pm and Marc and Amanda are planning to compete in a karaoke contest, but first they must decide who'll sing lead and who'll sing back-up, so they ask the guards manning the security camera to be judges. The first round, falsetto, is awarded to Amanda. For the second round, they have to improvise some song lyrics. Marc composes a little ditty about Betty and Matt, while Amanda just sings her grocery list. Marc doesn't wait for the judges' decision to determine that he was the winner of that round. For the final challenge, they demonstrate their "best rock star moves." Amanda vamps towards the camera, so when the judges vote for her, Marc feels as if her victory wasn't earned based on talent.
It's 11:25pm and Marc needs Amanda to help him with a YETI assignment that he had forgotten to do. He is supposed to interview someone who has a job equivalent to his at another magazine. Since all New York offices are closed, Amanda suggests that he should wait four hours to call Mode UK. At first, they have a difficult time dealing with their British counterparts, Clark (or is it Klarc?) and Samantha, but when Marc hears Clark berating an unfashionable co-worker named Felicia, the fab trans-Atlantic confab starts to get flirty. The guys bond over their stringent aesthetic requirements; that is, until they each see what the other looks like.
When Marc Met Mandy
It's 9:24pm and Marc and Amanda are reminiscing about the day that they met. Marc remembers the moment when she, filthy-faced and dressed in a burlap sack, wandered into the Mode office looking for a job. He called for security, but then he softened a little and told her that perhaps they could use help answering phones. He then brought her down the hall to try on a golden piece of closet couture, and thus a fashion starlet was born. Amanda remembers the encounter differently. In her version, she arrived wearing the little gold number, and when Marc saw her he tried to impress her with a cheesy pick-up line. Marc supposedly then told her that if he couldn't have her, then he would have no woman... ever.
I Spy (amazon.com exclusive; also on the 3rd Season DVD)
It's 7:51pm and Marc tells Amanda that they can't go to dinner together because, for the third time in a week, Wilhelmina has put him on babysitting duty. But Mandy quickly discovers that Marc is lying to her. It turns out he just wants to spy on the celebrities who have moved into the apartment building across the street, like Meryl Streep (15th floor) and Jake Gyllenhaal (13th floor). Amanda asks Marc if he is just obsessing because he doesn't have any love in his life, but Marc just turns the question around on Amanda. They end up comforting themselves with a love they can depend on... chocolate.
Always a Bridesmaid
It's 7:44pm and the upcoming wedding issue of Mode has made Amanda sad, so she and Marc decide to stage a fake wedding, in which Amanda will marry a tall, pale, and chiseled mannequin named Hunter Farthington. Marc performs the ceremony, then competes with the guest and bridesmaid dummies to catch the bouquet (and garter). Marc says that he can't legally get married in New York, so he would have to take a train... to Massachusetts! Their little reception ends with a pact, just before midnight. If neither of them is married in ten years, they will be each other's bride.
Harassment of a Sexual Nature
It's 7:46pm and Marc and Amanda are lamenting the fact that someone has filed a sexual harassment complaint against them. They are forced to read pamphlets and fill out an online questionnaire, but they find the questions to be so boring that they decide to act them out to liven things up a bit. The two take turns portraying harasser and harassee, with Marc first playing the nerdy victim of Amanda's advances. He then takes on the role of her sleazy boss. Amanda then receives a text message from the Mode security guard, who reveals that he was the one who filed the complaint.
A Vlog to Remember
It's 7:19pm and Amanda and Marc are furious that the Meade Building's security guard has uploaded videos of their antics to vidtuber.com for all the world to see. They decide to make their own video to set the record straight and explain their previous actions. Marc and Mandy then come to realize that they have both dated the guard, Xander. Well, Amanda didn't really date him... she just gave him an "Albuquerque Slider" in the stairwell. Just as they decide that their revenge should be to "vlog" about Xander, he cuts the power to their floor, and in the darkness he returns for another "Slider".
It's 8:56pm and Amanda interrupts Marc while he steam-irons money so she can ask him to ask Wilhelmina to give her a pay raise. She tells him to pretend to be Wilhelmina, while she pretends to be him. Amanda/Marc asks Marc/Wilhelmina to give Amanda a raise, so Marc/Wilhelmina proceeds to fire off a litany of Amanda's faults (she's a simpleton, lazy, a bimbo, etc.). Amanda then breaks character and mocks Marc for not being able to get a promotion over Betty. They quickly realize the error of their ways... They should have been pretending to be Marc/Betty and Amanda/Daniel instead.
It's 7:16pm and Amanda calls Marc to tell him that she thinks he needs a pick-me-up because of Betty's promotion, so she has signed him up for internet dating. He rejects the idea, but then he immediately logs onto QueenSeeker.com to check out the man-candy. Immediately, he flirts with HipCityBoy70, not knowing that this is the screen name Amanda has set up for him. When Amanda sees an IM pop up from GreaterGatsby69, Marc's actual screen name, she returns the flirting on Marc's behalf. Marc checks his Zagay guide to find a restaurant for them to hook up at that evening, but some of Amanda's comments cause him to realize what is really going on.
It's 10:08pm and Marc has allowed Amanda to dress him in gray slacks and a black shirt, a combination that Marc finds to be very plain. Amanda then introduces Marc to her relaxation program, which is designed to reduce stress and increase productivity. Amanda then comes close to deafening Marc by blaring the sound of ocean waves from the office's sound system. Unfortunately, Marc finds all of Amanda's suggestions to be more stress-inducing than stress-relieving. Marc then comes to the realizations that Amanda's chance for advancement at Mode might be as a stylist.
Prank Calls (included on the 3rd Season DVD)
It's 9:17pm and Marc and Mandy are nagging each other about certain housekeeping matters that have arisen at their apartment. They decide to break the tension by making prank phone calls. Marc starts by calling Betty and pretending to be Daniel, giving her ridiculous personal assignments. Amanda calls Daniel and pretends to be Betty, but she goes too far when she tells him she loves him, then she slips out of character and tells him how lonely she is. Marc calls Claire, pretending to be "vodka", and he tells her he misses her. Amanda raises the stakes by calling Wilhelmina. Marc grabs the phone and tries to cover, but Willi punishes him anyway.
