Betty expresses to Claire her concerns regarding Daniel's lack of an outward reaction to DJ's departure. Wilhelmina is disconcerted to arrive on the set of Mode's latest photo shoot to see that they're doing Daniel's "Love is a Battlefied" spread and not her "Puppy Love" idea. Kimmie shows up at Betty's desk to ask her for help in making her life better by getting her a job at Mode. Unfortunately for Betty, Daniel walks by just as they're having this conversation and he hires Kimmie on the spot. Betty goes to Christina for support and tells her about this one traumatic high school experience that Kimmie had inflicted upon her. In front of a cafeteria filled with students, Kimmie pulled Betty's skirt down so everyone could see her "granny pants." Christina tells Betty that it's now her turn to make Kimmie's life miserable. Justin decides to audition for the lead role in Billy Elliot on Broadway. Betty allows Kimmie to have an awkward encounter with Wilhelmina and Marc. At dinner that evening, Ignacio asks Betty if she's considered helping Kimmie instead. The next day, Marc and Amanda start to harass the new temp, Kimmie, but Betty sticks up for her and tells Daniel that she's going to help Kimmie to become the perfect assistant. Claire tries to goad Daniel into talking about DJ, but he just tells her that he doesn't want to discuss the matter. Betty notices Kimmie's progress, and Kimmie thanks Betty for her help by inviting her to hang out with her after work. Daniel feels that he wants to settle down and start a family, so he sends in an application for a matchmaking service. Kimmie wins Amanda over by bringing her a huge cookie. Amanda then decides to take Kimmie under her wing. At his audition, Justin runs into Randy, a football player from his school. Betty is stunned to see that Kimmie has been completely made over, but is even more shocked to learn that her new friend has invited Marc and Amanda to go clubbing with them that evening. Daniel goes to meet his first date from the matchmaking service and is mortified to discover that it is Wilhelmina. Unfortunately, as they were about to leave, the boat on which each of them was expecting to have a promising date with a compatible stranger has already left the dock. While trying to get into the club for their night of fun, Betty finds herself left outside, behind the velvet rope. After their audition, Justin and Randy both learn that their competition out-danced them. Justin sees how upset Randy is and he tries to comfort him, but the football player just yells at him. Daniel and Wilhelmina work together, for once, to set off the boat's fire alarm so they'll have to return to the dock. Kimmie seems to redeem herself by coming out of the club and telling Betty that she only got Marc and Amanda into that club so they, Kimmie and Betty, could go off and have a girls' night together without the other two tagging along. Daniel and Wilhelmina end up having a nice conversation and she tells him that she thinks they actually might be able to work together. Betty accidentally oversleeps because of her late night out with Kimmie, and when she gets to the office she discovers that in her absence Daniel has been relying on Kimmie. When she thinks that Kimmie is about to reenact the whole "granny pants" incident in the Mode lunch room, Betty decides to beat her nemesis to the punch, so she pulls Kimmie's skirt down instead. But this only ends up making Betty look bad. Amanda and Marc comfort Kimmie by complimenting her on her nice underwear. Back at school, Justin discovers that Randy is treating him a lot nicer than he usually does. Kimmie had done such a good job getting Mode mentioned in the newspapers after the night on the town that she and Betty had shared, so it is pretty easy for Betty to convince Daniel to give Kimmie a job drumming up publicity for the magazine by hanging out in the right New York hot spots. When it comes time to decide once and for all which theme the next issue of Mode will have, Daniel is surprised to hear Wilhelmina announce his idea as the one that they should go with. Betty is pleased when Daniel starts to make an announcement about Kimmie's new position, but she is speechless when she hears that Kimmie's title will be Associate Editor. Kimmie's first order of business is to send Betty to fetch her coffee.
