While Hilda helps Betty to prepare for a night out at the Beer Hole listening to the band that Henry manages, The I.R.S., Betty receives a rejection letter from the New York Review for a piece she'd recently submitted. Wilhelmina has Christina on bed rest until the doctor is certain that the embryo has been implanted. Right after he shows up at the Beer Hole, Daniel is asked to dance by a pretty young woman named Renee. Amanda is upset that Gene Simmons won't return her calls, so Marc suggests that she should communicate with him through music, by writing a song. Daniel mentions an upcoming interview with writer Phil Roth and Betty, thinking that it's acclaimed author Philip Roth, asks for the assignment, so Daniel tells her that she has to write a thousand words by Friday. Daniel brings Renee back to his place, but they are interrupted when they make their way to his bed and discover that Claire is there. The next day at the office, Gio reveals to Betty that the author she is meeting is Phil Roth, not Philip Roth, and Phil Roth writes books that teach men how to pick up women. She's mortified when she learns that the title of his latest book is Tap That: How to Score with Hot Biches. Roth claims that the easiest way "to bag a woman" is by insulting her and then ignoring her. Claire is feeling lonely and stir crazy after she's become a social outcast, primarily because of her temporary insanity and her resulting stint in prison. That night, Daniel goes to Renee's place so that they can pick up where they left off the night before. The next morning, when Daniel goes to join her in the shower, he finds Wilhelmina there instead and learns, in this most embarrassing way, that Renee is Willi's little sister. After Daniel leaves, Renee calls Wilhelmina by her real name, Wanda, and Wilhelmina calls Renee by her real name, Rhonda, and Christina overhears the whole conversation. At the office, Betty, who was filled in by Christina, tells Daniel that it's not a good idea for him to continue seeing Renee, considering how many times Wilhelmina has tried to destroy Daniel's family. When Betty expresses to Henry that she doubts that Phil Roth's techniques would work on real women, she decides to ask Gio if she can observe him following Roth's advice. Henry is insulted that Betty doesn't think that he could be successful hitting on women in a bar, so he shows up to show her, and Gio, what he can do. Gio proposes that they compete, and whoever gets the most phone numbers will be the winner. It turns out that, indeed, the ruder they are to the women in the bar, the more successful they are at getting their phone numbers. Renee shows up at Daniel's office with flowers and lets him know that she knew who he was when she saw him in the bar and she wanted to get with him to annoy Wilhelmina. But he tells her that they should probably just forget that they ever hooked up. At home, Hilda tells Betty that guys need books like Roth's to get the confidence to talk to women. Daniel shows up to get Betty's advice about his situation with Renee, and Betty tells him that maybe he should pursue the relationship to see how it turns out. She uses herself and Hilda, as well as Daniel himself and Alexis, as examples of how different siblings can be, so perhaps Renee is nothing like her big sister. The next morning, Wilhelmina is disconcerted to discover Daniel in her home again. Claire tells Daniel and Alexis that she's decided to start a magazine called Hot Flash, for mature women. Even though he really likes the interview that Betty wrote, Daniel tells her that it won't be published, because even though Alexis used to like Phil Roth's books when she was a man, as a woman she thinks that he's a pig. Henry confesses to Betty that whenever he sees her with Gio he feels the same way that she felt when she saw him (Henry) hitting on girls at the bar the other night. When Amanda debuts her new song at a bar, with I.R.S. backing her up, Gene Simmons shows up to hear the tune. Simmons tells Amanda that he Googles himself every morning, so that's how he found out about her performance. He tells her that he did indeed have a fling with Fey Sommers, then he asks her if she'd like to go somewhere to catch up. After Amanda leaves, Betty and Henry then have to sing lead for the band, and they sing "It Takes Two."  Wilhelmina tells Renee that her relationship with Daniel won't work without honesty, then she says that she hopes that Daniel never discovers the truth about Renee, leaving Christina wondering what that truth might be.
