Carlo Medina, a charming hottie and the assistant of the Editor-in-Chief of a rival fashion magazine, Isabella, flirts with the Mode employees (Betty, Marc, Amanda, and "Fat" Carol) at a happy hour mixer at The Rack. The next day, Betty brings Justin to work (he claimed that it was for a school project). Daniel and Wilhelmina question the staff after they learn that Isabella has stolen their idea for doing a post-apocalyptic Christmas photo shoot. Betty, Amanda, and Marc all know that they each spilled certain details of the photo shoot to Carlo, so they decide to stick together and cover for each other. Daniel and Wilhelmina decide to form an uncomfortable alliance and put their heads together to come up with an idea for a new holiday spread for photographer Vincent Bianchi to shoot. Ignacio gives Walter some advice about how to make it up to Betty for cheating on her with Gina. He suggests that Walter should make a romantic gesture by acting out a scene from her favorite movie. The masked lady calls Daniel's office again and tells Betty to give Daniel a cryptic message about a music box. Betty wants to confess to Daniel that she may have given some photo shoot details to Carlo, but Daniel tells her that she doesn't have to confess anything to him, especially if what she tells him would cause him to lose her. While brainstorming, Wilhelmina suggests recreating a spread in which Fey Sommers appeared in a sleigh, from the magazine's biggest selling holiday issue ever. Marc, Amanda, and Betty are all insulted repeatedly by "fat" Carol in the elevator, so they decide to let her take the fall for the Isabella leak. Daniel finds a music box that Bradford had given to Fey, which Fey had incorporated into her sleigh ride photo shoot, and Betty lifts a tray in the music box, under which they find burnt pieces of Fey's license plate and her partially melted signature sunglasses. Hilda is outraged to learn that Justin's trip to Mode isn't really for a school project. Betty tells him that lying is wrong, so that makes her decide not to put the blame on "fat" Carol for the leak. When Betty takes the full blame for telling Carlo everything, Wilhelmina reveals to Betty, Amanda, and Marc that one of her informants told her that although they had each given bits and pieces of info to Carlo, their nemesis Carol was actually the one who slept with Carlo and blabbed most of the details to him. Wilhelmina excuses the nervous trio without firing them because she knows that Amanda was drunk, Marc was horny, and Betty was just naive. While trying to sort out Ignacio's insurance problems, Betty learns that her father has been using the Social Security number of a dead man named Ignacio Suarez who was born in 1889. Wilhelmina summons Carlo Medina to her office and lists out his devious qualities to him, right before she asks him if she can entice him to be a spy for her. Taking Ignacio's advice, Walter serenades Betty with the theme song from her favorite movie, Beauty and the Beast, so she joins him out on the porch and turns it into a duet.
Trivia: Although this was the fifth episode filmed, hence the production number of 1-05, it was the fourth episode to air, so I call it Episode 4. On the First Season DVD, however, this episode has been returned to its position as the season's fifth episode. Amanda eats a lot when she's nervous, which is a trait of Betty's friend Bertha in "Yo soy Betty, la fea" and of that character's counterparts in most of the other international adaptations of the story.
